In 2004, the Board of Directors and administration of Lee Mental Health stepped forward to address a critical need for inpatient psychiatric services in the Lee County community and launched its first-ever capital campaign with the goal of $3 million to pay for the renovation of an existing facility and the transformation into VISTA. They successfully sought the support of local government, community hospitals, individuals, and many businesses and organizations including the Southwest Florida Community Foundation to help build a better system of care for children and adults in crisis. The result of their work is
VISTA
, a new state-of-the-art facility that will improve access to care and treatment for children and adults who are having an acute mental health crisis and need immediate assessment and treatment in a secure setting. VISTA opened in February 2006, with nearly a full house and is the only 24-hour emergency assessment and crisis stabilization unit in
Lee
County
where people can go for psychiatric observation and treatment.
On July 11, 2007, the Board of Directors offically closed the Vista Campaign.
